FURIA defeat fnatic for playoff spot; North eliminate Windigo

The last matches of the day at DreamHack Masters Dallas have been played out, with FURIA upsetting fnatic 2-0 (16-12 Mirage, 16-12 Nuke) and North taking down Windigo with the same scoreline (16-3 Overpass, 25-22 Dust2).

After losing the T pistol on Mirage, their map pick, fnatic won their first buy round by turning around a 3v4 situation with a late A push. However, FURIA displayed a no respect, aggressive playstyle moving forward, which saw them shut down fnatic's map control attempts and go up 9-2.

Simon "twist" Eliasson's AWP entry on B finally unlocked things for the Swedes, who capitalized on it to add their third round on the T side. Quick, direct hits towards the sites followed from Richard "Xizt" Landström and co., and they worked wonderfully, giving the Swedes a respectable 9-6 finish.

FURIA started the second half on-point, winning the pistol round and the following eco, as well as the "bonus round" thanks to Andrei "arT" Piovezan finding two headshots with the Mac-10 on a fast Cat approach. The Brazilian side reached a 14-7 lead quickly, but fnatic tightened their defenses to keep their opponents off of map point for some time, but eventually conceded a 5v3 retake of A and lost the map 16-12.

On Nuke, fnatic's CT cide wasn't able to hold against FURIA's offenses early on, the Swedes finding only two round victories within the first 12 rounds, both of which came from force-buys. Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato was the main issue (20K-6D) for fnatic, who ended the half with just four rounds and slim chances of a comeback as Terrorists.

Xizt and twist combined for the much-needed T pistol and their team shortly narrowed the gap to 12-8, but the following rounds were all going FURIA's way, getting them to map point, 15-8. Jesper "JW" Wecksell was the catalyst of fnatic's fight for survival, opening up the following round with a triple, but similarly to the game on Mirage, fnatic couldn't complete the comeback and fell 16-12.

In the Group A elimination match, Windigo picked Overpass into North, but the Danes started it with a 5-0 lead, with Nicklas "gade" Gade's quad kill giving them their fifth in the streak. Nothing much changed as the match continued, though, with North denying Windigo even a bomb plant for 10 round straight, outclassing them completely.

Philip "aizy" Aistrup and Jakob "JUGi" Hansen were impeccable in that early run, but the Bulgarian side finally managed to trade out some kills and get on the board, hitting the B site a couple of times to end the half with three. However, gade showed up in the second half pistol with another quad kill, which included the 1v1 clutch, making it simple for his team to close out the map, 16-4.

Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså and co. continued their dominance on the second map as well, taking hold of the flow of the game on the T-side of Dust2. A 5-0 star for North was followed by a couple going Windigo's way thanks to multi-kill rounds by Valentin "poizon" Vasilev and Kamen "bubble" Kostadinov, but the Bulgarians were limited to sporadic rounds for the rest of the half, finishing it 11-4 down.

poizon kicked into a higher gear after the swap and the game finally started looking interesting as he powered his side to a 6-0 start on the Terrorist half. The game became a brawl after that, Windigo survived a scary anti-eco and eventually reached 15 rounds, but couldn't close it out and overtime followed. It took three sets of added rounds for the victor to be found, with aizy's 1v4 clutch proving essential to North closing the series out 2-0.
